LISTING OF ACTIVITIES TAKEN UP During The Career Years AND THE NATURE AND QUANTUM OF WORK. ( to serve as additional intricacies for more specific job descriptions and requirements )

By  D.Rambabu, Engineer and Chief Executive

I am a Chemical Engineer and the work of a Chemical Engineer is in most cases not adequately understood in many circles. Since it involves a Multi-Disciplinary approach to Problem Solving, I saw a need of  defining my functions possible taking into view experience gained or at the least University Studies done.

Activities are pursued over the years mainly in the functional areas of Projects, General Management, R & D, Production  Pilot Plant Works and MARKETING MANAGEMENT and MARKETING RELEVANCY EVALUATION.

1.R & D:

The R & D Activities HENCEFORTH intended to be pursued are HIGHER LAVEL and Middle Management Type rather than complete involvement in Experimentation Unless the Problems are predominantly with Engineering Skills Application.

v Library Literature Surveys and Critical Comparative Evaluations of Research Articles and Reports. ( Extensive such Surveys made at Atomic Energy, at Canadian University  at Tata Chemicals and at Divi’s Laboratories )

v Equipment Selection and/or Purchase Exercise for Experiments. ( done while at Atomic Energy for 3 years; while at Canadian University for 2   years ).

v Planning and Supervision of Experiments and Follow up Suggestions and Recommendations. (experience gained throughout career period )

v Analysis of Data generated,  Computer Modeling of Reactions and Equipment Behaviors. ( throughout the 3 years at Atomic Energy; 2   years at Canadian University . Computer Modeling of Gas-Solid Reactions carried out at Atomic Energy and Original work done on Model Formation for High Pressure Gas-Solid Fluidized Bed Coal Combustors at Canadian University. )

v Chemical Process Development and Product Development Activities. ( Work of similar nature done for Molybdenum Metal Scrap Refining at Atomic Energy for an year and the recent work completed on PB 5 Reaction Scheme at Divi’s )

v Process Chemistry aspects dealt with, to an extent there is a pressing need and there is a direct connection to the Engineering Issues that may be involved. ( Organic Chemistry studied even in Engineering Bachelor Course and the Processes handled at Atomic Energy on Molybdenum Sulfide Ore Processing to Metal and Scrap Metal Reprocessing Scheme Design for Metal )

v Direct participation in Experimentation where Engineering Parameters like Heat Transfer, Mass Transfer and Reaction Engineering will be involved. ( good number of years spent with Engineering Experiments )

v  Internet Research, Website Research and Software Project Feasibility Research ( OVER THE LAST ONE DECADE AT LEAST )

v Research in the LEGAL DOMAINS

v MARKETING MANAGEMENT and MARKETING RELEVANCY EVALUATION RESEARCH IN RELATION TO INDIAN ECONOMY and ECONOMIC REFORMS [ 1984 – 2006 ]

v BUSINESS RESEARCH IN RELATION TO THE ACTIVITIES OF SMILE Services

v RESEARCH IN RELATION TO AGRI – PROJECTS and AGICULTURAL PRODUCE MARKETING

v RESARCH IN THE DOMAINS OF PHARMACEUTICAL REGULATORY { QUALITY }, PROCESS and EQUIPMENT DESIGN.

   2. PILOT PLANT WORK:

v Involvement in handling large scale batches where it is observed from first few runs that Engineering Parameters are effecting yields of Reactions or that the efficiency of utilization of other pieces of Equipment is important.

v Scale-up Issues of Processes and Equipment.

3. PROJECTS:

FAMILIAR WITH BOTH CAPITAL INVESTMENT PROJECTS and ALSO VENTURE TYPE PROJECTS, BOTH IN FORMULATION and IMPLEMENTATION WORKOUT. [ A MORE DETAILED NARRATION ELSEWHERE ]

The work here mainly pertains to a Technical Service and Initiation and Work-out on New Activities to a Level where the Production Personnel can readily adopt themselves to, with minimal further training.

The following are the key items of work pursued over the years with  relevant experience in each.

v Equipment and Systems ( Flow sheets, in a Chemical Engineering terminology ) Design as a preliminary activity for order of magnitude estimates for any Equipment modifications, improvements and New Installations. ( The regular activity throughout the number of years of experience. )

v Equipment and Systems  Design in a detailed Engineering way for Critical Applications, for Extensive Modifications and/or Improvements, for Highly Exothermic Reactions, for Large Scale Equipment malfunctioning and for New Projects; This exercise may also involve Computer Programming and Modeling.( 1.  SO2 gas Scrubber Design for Roasting applications while at Atomic Energy Department, Mumbai; 2.  Detailed Analysis and Computer Calculations for Gas- Solid Reactions and Reactors at Atomic Energy for at least 2 years; 3. Experimental Column Design  and flow-sheet Optimization activity at a Canadian University ; 4. Heat Exchanger Design with recycle loop, Slurry Pump Design, Piping Design and Cl2 Storage Tank Design Calculations at Tata Chemicals, Mithapur; 5. Equipment and Systems Design including Re-Design and revamping Activity at Divi’s Laboratories Ltd.., Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh for two years )

v P&ID Diagrams for Projects Implementation. ( work done at Mithapur )

v Sourcing of Equipment, Techno-Economic Evaluation for Purchase, Purchase Follow up and Inspection upon Equipment arrival. ( while at Atomic Energy, at Canadian University and at Mithapur )

v New Projects and Units Commissioning and follow up activities to a Level Operations Departments concerned can readily take up further routine functions with minimal operator or executive training as the case may be. Work inclusive of Operations Manuals Preparation keeping in view Safety, GMP and FDA requirements and Training Operators and Executives Concerned in the New Equipment handling. ( 1. Production experience in a Rubber Industry; 2. Commissioning Stage Operations handled for two Plants at Tata Chemicals, Mithapur )

v Equipment Qualification exercise of existing Equipment and fixing Best operational parameters wherever felt necessary. Process Re   Validation Exercise. ( Re-Validation work generally familiar with and that which is done in Canada . Re-   Validation of Process Scheme and Design Performance Qualification of Scrubbing Systems of PB  V in the concluding stages at Divi s ).

v Supporting role to Fabrications wing in Equipment Fabrications and Erections Exercise ( not the main role ) ( Similar Small Scale activity accomplished with Atomic Energy and the Canadian   University )

v Relevant Documents preparation from an Engineering and Designs Point of View. ( experienced throughout the career period )

v Mechanical Design and Application of Design Codes for Chemical Process Equipment. ( An activity successfully pursued both at a Canadian University (for at least an year ) and at Tata Chemicals, Mithapur ( for 6 months ).

v New Projects Formulation of Commercial sizes from Techno   Markets Inputs and Analysis. ( an Independent Project Formulation Activity worked out for an Industry Scheme Design ( involving Small Scale Industries as ancillaries to a Medium Scale Industry for the Commercial Production of Starch, D- Glucose and Fructose ) for direct Commercial Production from existing Process and Technology Sourcing Details available so also Market Information. )

4. Projects and R & D Work of Similar Nature:

v Identification and Pinning down causes for Equipment Malfunctioning.

v Identification of Best Operating Conditions and Parameters of Processes and Equipment ( the degree of this exercise differs from Projects to R & D to Pilot Plant Scale Operation ).

v Recommendation for Experimentation and

v Commissioning Stage monitoring of Equipment Performance.

5. Projects and GMP work of Similar Nature:

Equipment Re   Validation done purely from an Engineering Point of  View in Projects and from an Overall Management Perspective in GMP.
